Yogi Adityanath 1,300 Muslim weddings performed by UP Government,

As part of its outreach efforts to Muslims, Yogi Adityanath’s government has arranged for the nuptials of over 1,300 couples from the minority community across the state this fiscal year. These marriages were held as part of the chief minister’s mass marriage plan, which was introduced a few years ago.

600 crore set aside for group marriages

Previously, these weddings were performed by many departments including minority welfare. However, the social welfare department has been designated as the nodal agency for these group marriages, and budgets from all departments have been transferred to it. According to officials, 600 crore has been set aside for group weddings across the state this fiscal year, with the department spending 81.76 crore as of August.

From April through August of this year, the department was able to host 16,033 group weddings. 1387 minority couples, 9,374 Dalit couples, 4,649 OBC couples, and 623 general couples married. The division of Moradabad had the highest number of marriages with 1,567, followed by Varanasi (1,409), Lucknow (1,274), Kanpur (1,035), Ayodhya (1,014), Meerut (962), Prayagraj (934), Gorakhpur (933), and Bareilly (871).

A bride receives 51,000 in her bank account

Hari Om, principal secretary, social welfare department, stated that efforts will be taken to ensure that as many weddings as possible be solemnised during the next wedding season, since applications had already been received in large numbers. The initiative is open to couples from any caste or religion who are poor.

Muzaffarnagar teachers barred from wearing T-shirts, jeans

In another interesting development in Uttar Pradesh, the district inspector of schools (DIOS) in Muzaffarnagar has ordered all teachers in the district’s schools and colleges not to wear jeans or T-shirts in the classrooms since it may give kids the ‘wrong impression.’

“I was on an inspection of schools and witnessed several teachers wearing jeans and T-shirts in classrooms,” DIOS Gajender Singh said. I cautioned them against using such a careless approach. “I have just issued a dress code circular.”

The circular threatens “severe action” against any instructor found breaking the rules, he said. Singh went on to say, “It is a question of discipline; not only kids and instructors, but principals, should also adhere to the dress code. Teachers who dress modestly have a positive effect on kids.”

Students will then follow their teachers. “This order also applies to female teachers. They must dress in a sari or salwar-kameez. If a person fails to obey the order, he or she will face departmental action and a negative entry in their record book,” the DIOS stated. The circular has been distributed to about 278 high schools and inter-colleges across the district, according to information received from the DIOS office.
