Initiative to Build a Mosque at Chandranath Dham Sparks Intense Concern Among Hindus

The historic Chandranath Dham in Sitakunda, Chittagong, is a sacred pilgrimage site for followers of Hinduism. Centered around the Shri Shri Chandranath Temple, the site attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees annually for major festivals like Maha Shivaratri and Janmashtami. Perched on a hill, this dham is a paramount spiritual center not just for Bangladesh but also for many Hindus across India and the rest of the world.

Recently, news of an initiative to build a mosque on the hilltop has sparked intense concern and anger within the Hindu community. According to information circulating on social media, some local Islamic leaders and organizations have demanded space for prayer, and discussions with the administration on this matter are reportedly underway.

Representatives of the Hindu community have stated that this is a major threat to the country's religious harmony. They argue that constructing a new religious building next to a pilgrimage site where Hindus have worshipped for centuries could lead to future unrest and conflict.

An historic pilgrimage site like Chandranath Dham is an integral part of the identity and religious life of Hindus. Devotees fear that if a mosque is built on the hilltop, it will hurt Hindu religious sentiments and destroy the unique spiritual character of the dham.

Hindu organizations are strongly urging the government to ensure that this initiative is not implemented. They demand that the administration immediately intervene to preserve the unique spiritual atmosphere of Chandranath Dham, respecting the sacred religious sites of the country's minority communities.
