Swami Shivananda of Sylhet is now world-renowned doctor.
A 127 year-old yoga practitioner Dr. Shivananda is considered the oldest person in the world.
He
was born in the Village Haritala of 4th Sadar union of Bahubal upazila
of Habiganj district in Bangladesh On 8 August 1896 during British
India.
His parent was Srinath Goswami Mother Bhagwati Devi respectively.
His parents and elder sister Aarti used to live by begging from door to door.
Due to extreme poverty in few years.
At the age of 4, He was given to Swami Oskarananda, the famous monk of Navadwip owing to serve poverty.
Two years later, at the age of 6, he returned home with the monk and heard that his sister had died of starvation.
A week after coming home, parents died on the same day.
He with Swami Oskarananda left for
Navadwip in 1901 after completion of his parents' funaral and started studying there.
Later He passed MBBS from Calcutta Medical College.
In 1925, He traveled to Britain and received his Ph.D.
Bachelor Swami Shivananda, who lives in Varanasi in India and his vow is human service.
He doesn't have any disease. He avoids low-fat, oily foods, milk, fruits.
He can read without glasses and does yoga exercises everyday.
He
denoted the flat given to him by one of his fans in Varanasi (Kashi)
for a month to stay and eat free of cost for the devotees from
Bangladesh.
He received the Padma Shri from the President of India for yoga and human service in 2022.
