Police have arrested a young man named Avi Das Rony (30) in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on charges of making offensive remarks about the Prophet (PBUH) on social media Facebook

Earlier on Friday evening at around 6 pm, the villagers surrounded Rony's house in a protest procession in Aruail Bazar area of ​​the upazila after he insulted the Prophet (PBUH) on Facebook. The accused's father Jaharlal Das was detained for questioning and taken to the police station


Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, chairman of the local Aruail Union Parishad, said the accused Avi Das Rony did not live at home, he worked for an NGO in Laksham, Comilla. Ronnie made an offensive comment about the Prophet in a Facebook status comment given by a local youth. When the locals came to know about the incident, they gathered on Friday evening and staged a protest procession. At the end of the procession, they surrounded the house of the accused in the market area


The chairman further said that at that time prominent people of the area and members of the police outpost brought back the protesters with assurances of justice. Outraged villagers gave a 24-hour ultimatum to arrest the accused youth
