Minority Hindu Family Members Being threatened to kill in Sylhet Town: Police Inactive

A Hindu family members  in Sylhet divisional town was harassed and threatened by an influential quarters over the land issue and police remained silence, it's alleged.

Puja Mondal, daughter of Gita Rani Halder, a nursing supervisor at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at  a press conference at the Sylhet District Press Club,  alleged that her father, Tapun Kumar Mondal Kajol, is presently staying at abroad and her mother resides at Shamimabad residential area in Sylhet divisional town with her school-going son.

Puja said that the family purchased a four-decimal plot at  Shamimabad in 2013 and constructed their residence without any hinderenc until 5 August 2024.

She alleged that their neighbor Suhel Beg, along with his gang Rajab Ali, Abdul Mumin, Imran Ahmed, Shahan Ahmed, Kamran Ahmed, Angur Mia, Fakir Ali, Russell Ahmed, Suman Ahmed, and Rabbi has been harassing them since then.

Puja also alleged that Suhel Beg claimed ownership over their property without providing any legal document. Despite the family's willingness to discuss the matter upon her father's return, Suhel allegedly demanded extortion of TK 5 lacs and threatened if the demand wasn't met.

On July 28, 2025,  Suhel and his associates reportedly demolished the boundary wall of their home, vandalized the house and destroyed CCTV cameras while Gita Rani was performing her duty at the hospital.

Puja and her brother were present during the incident and called the police. However, before leaving, the attackers allegedly threatened to kill them.

Gita Rani tried to lodge a complaint with the local Police Station in this regard, but the case was not officially recorded. Even, They became compelled to appeal to the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner, but no appropriate action was taken in this connection.
Gita Rani, finding on other alternative, filed two separate cases in the court.

The family urged the authorities to take immediate action to ensure their security and safety and uphold justice.
